Museums serve as a great tool for the study of local historic as well as scientific principles.

WHY SHOULD A MUSEUM DISPLAY REPLICAS?

A museum displays replicas for the following reasons:

  • High maintenance needed for originals.
  • To attract more visitors.
  • Higher cost and efforts to put up originals.
  • Lack of security to protect originals.
  • When originals are transformed to display in some museums or exhibitions.
  • To replace damaged originals.

HOW TO IDENTIFY REPLICAS IN A MUSEUM?

Replicas are mostly exhibited in museums with a description that briefs why they have put up a replica. Museums are not supposed to mislead their visitors by putting up a replica. Replicas displayed are mostly different from the originals to not pave the way for a mislead.

There are certain circumstances in which a museum needs to display a replica of the original. No matter what the situation is, according to the rules they are supposed to display a replica only by mentioning the same.

The replicas displayed in museums are greatly useful for educating students. The replicas must be displayed in museums at certain times to replace a missing link. Ther is no harm in exhibiting the replicas by accepting the same.

Some problem exists behind if replicas are not displayed without proper acceptance. Most people can’t differentiate between originals and replicas, and it is pretty easy to do this job. If replicas are placed in a museum without any notice, there is a hidden agenda behind it and common people have all the rights to question the same.

Museums are known for displaying original pieces and products. However, in certain circumstances, they are allowed to display a replica. The replicas are only supposed to be displayed by mentioning that it is not an original piece.

We cannot easily identify a replica and original. Only certain professionals in the sector can do it who can identify the difference in the wire work, product design, paint finish, etc. It is therefore easy for museum authorities to replace the originals with a replica as most of us would not notice. It would be a serious offense to display replicas instead of originals in the museum without a notice on the same to avoid any misleads. You should inform superior authorities if you found out the exhibition of a replica without any due reasons. The chances are high that some corruption is going on if an original is replaced with a replica without mentioning it. The chances are high for corruption in a museum as most of the items displayed there are very rare and thus costly.
